Mrs. Booth- 7th Grade Language Arts Class
Welcome!
I am so glad that you are part of my class! I hope you enjoy your stay, become involved with many of our programs, and meet some new friends. I am working toward offering the educational experiences that will better prepare you for your future. We all need to work cooperatively for our program to be successful. Success is a team effort!
I grew up in Eastpointe and graduated from East Detroit High School. I earned my Bachelors of Elementary Education Degree from Wayne State and my Masters of Secondary Education from Saginaw Valley State University. I have taught in East Detroit Public Schools for thirteen years.
CLASS OUTLINE:
Language Arts includes spelling, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, communication and speaking skills. We will start the year with a review of test taking strategies and prep for the MEAP test. Students will begin the year with an Autobiography Project.
After the MEAP we will begin our first unit- “Problem Solving/ Mysteries”. We will read our first novel, Touching Spirit Bear and stories/articles from our textbook. There will be a class set of books in the room for use since there will be no homework assigned from the textbooks. We will write at least one essay and one research project in the first semester as well.
The second semester unit is “Facing Challenges” with a focus on the study of civil rights. We will read a variety of materials including novels, short stories, legends, and informational text. Readings will include stories from the textbook, and the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. Each unit includes assessments-test, essay, or projects. Students will also complete Biography Oral presentations, a poetry unit, and study Greek Mythology.
